ReadMe.txt ---------- Contents ======== 1. Introduction 2. How to install and run the presentation 3. Installing DirectX and ActiveMovie 1. Introduction ============ This CD-ROM or disk contains a presentation made using Scala MultiMedia MM200. It can be run on systems using the Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 operating systems. 2. How to install and run the presentation ======================================= This section describes how to run, install and make icons for the presentation. All the sections below assume that the presentation is on a CD-ROM in drive D:. If the presentation is on some other drive, substitute the appropriate drive letter. The author of the presentation may have chosen to make the CD-ROM "Auto-Run". This means that the presentation starts automatically when the disc is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. You have a choice of running directly from the CD-ROM, or copying the presentation to your hard drive first. Entries in the Start menu for starting the presentation can be created for you. Running the presentation directly --------------------------------- Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\Fluke cd1 versie2 into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "Fluke cd1 versie2" icon. Creating the icons ------------------ Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\setup into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "Setup" icon. This creates icons for "Fluke cd1 versie2" that are visible in Explorer and My Computer. It also creates a "Fluke cd1 versie2" entry in the Start menu under "Scala". Installing to hard disk ----------------------- Drag the folder named "Fluke cd1 versie2" from the CD-ROM onto your hard drive. Then go into the newly created folder and double-click "Setup". Note that if the CD-ROM was made to "Auto-Run", you must select Open in the right-mouse-button menu of the CD-ROM object, or use the Windows Explorer to view the CD-ROM contents. 3. Installing DirectX and ActiveMovie ================================== Running Scala MultiMedia presentations requires Microsoft DirectX version 3 or newer graphics software. If the presentation uses ActiveMovie-supported digital video animations such as Video for Windows (.AVI), QuickTime for Windows (.MOV), or MPEG (.MPG), the machine running the presentation also requires the Microsoft ActiveMovie version 1.0 or newer software. If DirectX and/or ActiveMovie are not already installed on the machine on which you wish to run the presentation, you must first install them. Most newer PCs already have this software installed at the factory. The author of the presentation may have chosen to include the DirectX and/or ActiveMovie software with the presentation. In this case, you can install the software directly from the same disc as the presentation. If DirectX or ActiveMovie were not included with the presentation, you can download them from Microsoft's Web site (http://www.microsoft.com). There is a link to this site from Scala's Web site (http://www.scala.com). To install DirectX 3 software from the disc on which you received the presentation: Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\directx\dxsetup.exe into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "dxsetup" icon. To install ActiveMovie 1.0 software from the disc on which you received the presentation: Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\amovie.exe into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "amovie" icon. If you have problems running Scala using pre-existing installations of DirectX and/or ActiveMovie, we recommend that you re-install DirectX and ActiveMovie from the files provided with the Scala presentation, or from the files from Microsoft's Web site. WARNING: If you have Windows NT 4.0, do NOT install DirectX 3 from the dxsetup.exe file! Doing so may IRREPARABLY DAMAGE your installation of Windows NT 4.0! Installation of DirectX 3 should be installed from the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (SP 3) update from Microsoft. Please visit their web page (http://www.microsoft.com) or contact your network administrator, dealer or manufacturer of your computer for information. Scala is a trademark of Scala Incorporated.
